3/ Occlusal balancing

A perfect occlusal balance occurs when all the teeth are symmetrically in contact with each other when the mouth is closing. The mouth opening has to be straight.
Because teeth while chewing perform a right to left movement, there must not be any interference along them that could strain the articulations.

The problem is that a perfect occlusal balance is rare, and that many patients show signs of occlusal unbalance causing different difficulties :

  • Dental pains
  • Loose teeth
  • Teeth moving
  • Dental abrasions
  • Dental fractures
  • Painful temporo-mandibular articulations
  • Cracking sounds when opening/closing the mouth
  • Whistling noises (tinnitus)
  • Hearing depreciation up to deafness
  • Neuralgia
  • Back problems

Before starting any medical treatment, an occlusal rebalancing will be necessary in case of such conditions.
Indeed, an unbalanced dentition will not ensure durability in the work done in your mouth.

How do we perform an occlusal rebalancing?

First, it is indispensable to get in contact with an osteopath

  • If the occlusion unbalance is superficial, small grindings will be enough to fix the issue.
  • If the unbalance is serious, multiple sessions will be necessary in collaboration with an osteopath.
