Any dental treatment requires preparatory measures, as to plant a tree.
1/ Dental hygiene :
Hygiene is the foundation of microbiological balance and rids dental plaque, which recreates itself every 4 hours.
1/ The periodontal disease
The periodontium is made of four tissues: the gingival, the alveolar process,
the periodontal ligament and the cementum. Gingivitis relates to a periodontal disease limited to the gums, although a periodontitis is a disease involving all the periodontium. In result of the latter, tooth loss could occur.
Gingivitis
- Dental plaque induced gingivitis or "simple gingivitis"
It is the most common gingival disease. It results in a gingival inflammation caused by dental plaque.
- Generalized hypertrophic gingivitis
Drugs such as anticonvulsant drugs or some beta-blockers favor its appearance. |
|
- Localized hypertrophic gingivitis or Epulis
Female hormones help it its development. It is frequent for pregnant women to spread such a disease.
- Necrotizing ulceration gingivitis (NUG)
This very particular form of gingivitis consists of a tissue destruction by necrosis, without any pocket formation. It is usually triggered by a very powerful stress or a serious illness (only an immunodeficiency could provoke a NUG).

Periodontitis
- Non-complicated periodontitis
The alveolysis (tooth loss) is horizontal.
- Chronic periodontitis (complex)
The alveolysis is as well horizontal. The occlusion could be an aggravating factor.
- Aggressive periodontitis (with an acute progression)
The alveolysis, this type vertical, can be either local or generalized to the entire mouth.
Genetics could be an aggravating factor of this type of periodontitis. |

Gingival recession
Gingival recessions are frequent.
They are ungraceful, but can also create a dentinal hypersensitivity.
The treatment for gingival recession consists in adapting your brushing method to a gingival fragility accompanied with a medical follow-up. If the condition worsens, a gingival graft could be suggested to the patient (gingival graft).
Symptoms
- What are the visible signs of a developing gingivitis?
The gingival appears red, smooth, inflamed. It also bleeds easily, with or without preliminary touching.
A healthy gingival must be pink, with an "orange peel effect", bonding with the subjacent bone.
- What are the visible signs of a growing periodontitis?
- Gingival recession (resulting in a lengthening of the teeth)
- Abnormal loose teeth. It is usually the most disturbing sign.
Dentinal hypersensitivity could occur around the neck of the tooth following the root's exposure.
