4/ Temporary or transitional prostheses

A prior aesthetic and functional research will be performed on a patient's mouth if teeth are missing and thus requires a temporary prosthodontic. It also enables the practitioner to visualize the final result and to make sure of the project's feasibility.

Resin-made prosthodontics are the most common.

They can be prefabricated before any extraction if an aesthetic imperative is requested by the patient.

In the case of an implant surgery guided by a 3D computerized scan :

It is imperative to fabricate an ideal temporary prosthodontic for the patient in order to have the best positionning for the implants. In fact, aesthetic, biological, mechanical and functional parameters are performed on the same study.

This approach allows an immediate prosthodontic setting on the implants.

If only one front tooth is missing, a bridge can be applied and kept for the entire implant integration time.

Remarks : Temporary prosthodontics are usually not very comfortable for our patients :
Speaking becomes difficult because of the presence of a plate in the palace. The volume of the false gingival gives an inflamed aspect. The prosthodontic "moves" in the mouth. Food can get stuck under the prosthodontic. It presses against the gingival and thus can sometimes become painful. It has to be taken out and cleaned.
Thankfully, prosthodontics are only temporary. Imagine how in the past (when implants weren't yet invented) people used to wear them for their entire life!
